This is a classic 5-day hut-to-hut traverse of the Rockies. The scenery is breath taking, encompassing about 37 Km.. We will start from Bow Lake and finish our trip at Sherbrook Lake on Highway 1 at Lake Louise lodge. We will be staying in three ACC huts; Bow Hut, Balfour Hut and Scott Duncan Hut.
Itinerary at a glance:
1. Bow Lake to Bow hut – 8km, 390m-elevation gain, max elevation 2330m (4 to 5 hours).
2. Extra day for ski touring from hut. Transceiver practice before we head out.
3. Bow Hut to Balfour Hut – 7Km, 580m gains, 430m loss, and max elevation 2930m.
4. Balfour Hut to Scott Duncan Hut – 10KM, 520m gain, 320m loss, max elevation
5. Scott Duncan Hut to highway – 12KM
There will be opportunity to climb and ski different peaks en route.
The Huts:
Bow Hut has a large sleeping and kitchen-dining room area with wood stove. The other huts are very basic and quite small. There is no wood stove, but they stay relatively warm, because of their size. We will need to melt snow for water, or get water from a stream if it is running. All the huts have no saunas or showers.
