Kelly Mager has been cooking in the backcountry for almost 20 years. She is based in Canmore, Alberta in the Rocky Mountains, which is the perfect venue to operate Backcountry Bistro. From her beginnings as a camp cook for gold exploration in Northern British Columbia to owning her own Italian-style bistro in Victoria, B.C., her passion for creating quality, fresh food is unique and in demand.

Her passion for food is evident in her menus that offer mouthwatering recipes that will not only excite your tastedbuds, but more importantly fulfill your hunger. Since moving to Canmore in 2002, Kelly has cooked in many of the lodges and huts from the West Coast to the Rockies, in Winter as well as in Summer.

Currently she spends her time preparing food for local mountain guides.

I cater to food sensitivities and allergies with the help of a specialized computer program. I supply a comprehensive menu complete with recipes and instructions to guide you in the kitchen. If your trip requires lightweight fare, I have a large repertoire of dehydrated meals that are delicious and easy to prepare. From basic backcountry provisions to five-star ski touring cuisine, I tailor menus to suit your group’s needs. My appreciation of nutritional needs in the backcountry is honed by my extensive personal enjoyment of mountain activities, which I believe makes me better able to supply the necessary fuel needed for ski touring, ice climbing or summer mountaineering.
